Thanks, Jim. I have to say that Plan B is looking better all the time.

That entails buying an enclosure for the old HD, to use an an external
drive.

Would you happen to know if I want a 2.5 or 2.5-inch enclosure? I've
read the specs for the HD (it was actually a replacement Western
Digital 120-GB drive, but I assume the size is the same), and can't
find that information. It must be one of those things everybody (but
me) just knows.
