Very unlikely it's the HD. One HD failure mode would prevent the CD from even booting. Others could cause a problem but much further along than you are seeing. That isn't to say the HD is good, just that it's not likely causing the problems you are seeing so far. RAM is the most likely culprit. You have at least two DIMMs to get 384 Mb so try removing one then booting. If that fails then try removing the other DIMM. Also try un-plugging and re-connecting all the cables. Try zapping the PRAM Start up and hold down Command-Option-P-R and resetting Open Firmware. Check the battery, a voltage reading below 3.0V and you should replace it. Start up and hold down Command-Option-O-F At the prompt type: reset-nvram reset-all At this point the computer will restart. > > Would anyone on this list be able to tell me where I can perhaps > find a replacement fan to replace the broken one, and also perhaps > have an idea what could be wrong with my system, and why any Mac OS > version I try running craps out? Thanks! Try <http://www.digikey.com> and <http://www.alltronics.com> for one. You need one that is the same size (hole spacing and thickness) and power (voltage and current). -- Clark Martin Redwood City, CA, USA Macintosh / Internet Consulting "I'm a designated driver on the Information Super Highway" --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
