I'm seeing the term "G-Group" used now in Google. Originally at LEM it
was "G-List", and then upon the transition to Google it became "g3-5-
list" which continues in the footers and is the address I'm using to
submit this posting.

I recently attempted to search the archives and it seems the name
changes each have resulted in a disconnect between the older names and
the newer name, so instead of a single archive (or multiple if you
count the alternate archives to Google, such as www.mail-archive.com),
we now have many disconnected archives. Thus, you'd need to know all
the past names of the list, and search each one separately, or deal
with searching EVERY Google mailing list.

It seems like a mess. I don't know why there have been so many name
changes, and I don't know any simple way to reintegrate the archives
into a single continuous and unabridged version. I'd only suggest that
a SINGLE name be selected, and that name should be homogeneous
throughout all postings. The idea that a list called "G-Group" has
addresses in the footers saying "g3-5-list" seems like a mess that
needs permanent correction. If any of the list nannies or the list mom
has time, it would be super to reintegrate all the archives into one
searchable list, but that seems highly unlikely, and only likely to be
doable if some Google Groups administrative genius understands the
issues completely.

The lesson for those starting mailing lists is to select a good name,
and STICK WITH IT FOREVER. Otherwise, information is lost to the
ether, and only a genius could reconstruct the past from the present
or future.
