<rant> My wife, with her up to date iMac running AppleMail and OS 10.6.xx buys things for her iPhone from iTunes using her VISA account. I, on this Mac 8500 running OS 9.1, get forwarded copies of her "receipts" from iTunes so that I can enter them into my Excel 2001 workbook that keeps track of family finances. I simply cannot read the forwarded email messages using Eudora 5.1. They are complicated HTML with 100 kB of cascading style sheets followed by 20 or more links to possible other items for sale with a total size of over 300 kilobytes.. Yes, using MPW and some other geeky techniques I can read the source code and extract the information I need. But WHY ????? Apple has gone MAD. Microsoft is better at supporting its older stuff. Yeah. I understand that the Nexties form Steve's other company couldn't use Apple Inc's patented software but now that Apple owns Next , Inc. OS neXt, the X stands for that and not decimal 10, the old stuff is available but the nexties won't allow it. The important thing is to be more like Windoze. The real answer is to learn Linux. For less than $1k I have acquired an Intel box that is loaded with Ubuntu Linux and when I need it I can read those iTunes messages OK. I can also run Open Office if I want but I really prefer this OS 9 8500 with its SE/30 file server so long as I stay at OS 10.3.9 on my G4. So, from my favorite box, a G3 enhanced 8500 running OS 9.1, I wish you good luck. For efficiency I recommend an Intel box with Ubuntu. But on the wall above my computer is a certificate for 100 shares of Apple Inc. that cost me $10/share.
