As for a webcam, any compatible USB camera (either expressly or with the macam driver <http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/ > plus iUSBCam <http://www.ecamm.com/mac/iusbcam/> will work with iChat, avoiding the need for expensive firewire cameras. iChat also supports "USB Video Class" cameras; however, in my experience these cameras are quite expensive.
