256 Mb on Panther isn't a problem unless there is something additional installed that is gobbling up memory. Try doing a safe boot. Installing more memory is easy enough (much easier than an iBook). And yes, more memory is a good idea. One thought, she didn't install any software from RoadRunner did she?
