First off, I'd install Macam <http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/> and  
see if it works.

If it doesn't, plug it in, fire up System Profiler, and under USB  
devices, look for it.

Try googling the manufacturer's name  + OS X driver, sometimes you get  
lucky.

But if it's a web cam, and it doesn't work out of the box or with  
macam, likely it's a piece of 'leeverite'.

(old rockhound term for something worthless 'leave 'er right where you  
found it.')
