Trash the energy saver/power manager plists, immediately shutdown, manually reset the PMU (hit the CUDA button ONCE), wait about ten seconds to give the PMU time to initialize, boot your computer, reset the Energy Saver settings. If that doesn't work, check the system log. There might be an indication there as to why the sytem won't deep sleep.
