Sorry to hear of your problems.
Adobe InDesign CS2 may have some bugs, however, I have not have had any
problems with the older InDesign CS on the professional level copier/printers I
use in production.
At the professional level the alternative is QuarkXpress. And unless you are a
dedicated Quark user most folks I know think InDesign is the best option for
the present.
At the office level there is MS Publisher which I think is a horror for print
shops that have to deal with those files. And there is no Mac version and no
way AFAIK to use a Publisher file on a Mac. MS really developed that one as
anti-Mac, anti-Adobe and ant-Quark.
At the level of doing personal stuff like greeting cards there may be other
less expensive options. I would like to know as well.
Another work around may be to simpley export the .Indd file to .pdf. If the
bug is in the Epson driver (which it may be) this may solve the problem.
Good luck --glen
