I don't think so. I've got this same dual 2.5 G5 w/10.5.8 and 6 GB RAM. In Safari 4.0.4 with 7 windows & 29 tabs open, as well as Mail.app, iTunes, GraphicConverter, and QT Player, my CPU usage sits at about 20%. When I go the the MSNBC and play one of their large Flash videos, the CPU usage jumps to an average of about 80%, with peaks in the 90's and lows in the 70's. This is using the latest Adobe Flash Player Version 10,0,42,34. You can check your version of Adobe Flash Player here: <http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/> My fans DID make an increase in speed, but NOT to something really high, and when these fans go high, they can REALLY go high, like a small airplane or something. My fans almost never go that high, and when then do, it's almost always some sort of runaway process, for which the solution is to open Activity Monitor with the processes sorted by CPU usage and quit whatever process is likely using 100+% of the CPUs. The fans should immediately slow back down to normal, which is still more than most. Also, Adobe Flash Player is a CPU pig. I haven't had any problems with this newest version yet, and honestly, I think the CPU usage is slightly lower than with past versions, I can remember a version that seemed to peak at 100% and I saw stuttering video. Now the video is smooth for even large sizes, and the CPU usage is under 100%, so there seems to be some slight improvement, but it's still pathetic compared to the Windows versions (I've got an old 1 GHz Pentium 3 w/XP that plays all Flash perfectly smooth, while I think most 1 GHz G3's choke, and G4's struggle). It appears even our dual G5's are having some issues with Flash. At least Google is moving YouTube away from Flash. Now if everyone would follow the lead, perhaps we could get somewhere. Be thankful so few use MS Silverlight instead of Adobe Flash, there's no PPC Silverlight for us. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
