The fans on the 9800 series of video cards are notoriously unreliable - partly because these cards do run pretty hot compared to others. A lot of guys replace the fans with something that pushes a lot more air. The fan in my 9800 128mb went south after 6 months of use and I know of two others that lasted about the same before replacement was necessary. Sometimes the card overheats when the fan fails and you have to replace the videocard itself.

After doing some trouble shooting I discovered that the fan on the ATI mac pro video board was rubbing on the heat sink. Disassembled and remounted the fan and all is well. Just some I hope useful information.
