WOWZA, thats a large pile o'Urban legendosity. Uhh, no. A Lack of drivers for the SMC (which is the power control system for the laptop) merely means that yoiu get the fans on, and poor battery performance.
But even on that note, you're wrong, because the Asus One netbook has the same SMC power management and lo and behold Suse works it quite well.
