Try debian, but really OSX is better...

Yeah, Debian works. I don't know if it was the CD-ROM drive in mine or
Debian but I couldn't get it to install from the CD-ROM drive. I ended
up using an an external USB DVD drive.
The other thing with Debian is that they are rather conservative on
their releases. They don't bring out a new release until it's been
thoroughly tested which means it works but it also means it's often out
of date by the time it's released. I'm using the pre-release on one
machine and well it's kind of an adventure.
Contrast that to X where you can run tiger and use the latest release of
Safari.
Once I got Degian installed I think it was the least trouble I've ever
had running Linux. Most of the time you have to tweak the X windows
configuration file but I didn't with the Clamshell. And WiFi worked
right off.
Kasey is right, X is better. It's faster. Debian threw up several
windows that extended off the 800x600 screen. You can work around it
but it's a pain.
Yes, you can install Tiger on a firewire-less clamshell. Either using
XPostFacto or install it on the harddisk on another computer.
I recently bought an ibook G3 clamshell 300, 576ram, 6 gb hard drive.
I want to experiment with linux on this machine but not sure which
version and where to get it. Any help would be great.
You can get Debian at <http://www.debian.org>.
Fedora would be another choice although the latest release is probably a
little too much for the clamshell.
