I'm using Little Snitch on my G5 2.3 dual w/10.5.8.
Today I get a message from Little Snitch saying:

Mail wants to connect to smtp.cs.com on TCP port 465(urd).
IP Address: 205.188.186.137
Reverse DNS Name: mtaout-da.r1000.mx.aol.com
Established by: /Applications/Mail.app/Contents/MacOS/Mail
Process ID: 7444

I did a bit of searching and cs.com is CompuServe. I've never had
anything to do with CompuServe, I thought it went out of business or
perhaps was bought by AOL? I do have an old AOL email account, but
it's setup for smtp at aol.com. Since the Reverse DNS Name has
"aol.com" at the end, I thought perhaps AOL was having some problems
with it's smtp, and forwarding to another address they control? The
problem with that is that I haven't sent anything from the AOL
account to cause this. I suspect this may be part of some SPAM
operation. I'm leaning toward telling Little Snitch to "Deny" the
connection "Forever". Any advice?
CompuServe is owned by AOL and still exists.
That IP is part of one of AOL's SMTP pool.
AOL seems to be having some dns issues currently; a bunch of their
IPs aren't translating consistantly.
As to why Mail was reaching out to it... Perhaps you tried to send
mail via AOL's servers and their dns issues redirected you to that
pool.
