I have seen on ebay about replacing these hinges using some kind of glue for when they break and you replace them with new ones... This is a very weak area in design on these computers, maybe who ever replaced it didn't do it right??? I have to replace the LCD screen in mine and I'm going to be dealing with this soon but at least mine are not broke yet, I spray them with Silicone Spray so they are not stiff when closing it...
