Bill, I have the exact same set as you.
I would use pacifist to work on the CD set instead of the dmgs to

Aren't you going to burn the disk images first as opening them before
you burn them will likely make them unusable?

Don't have any clues about the modifying code though as I rarely use
Pacifist.
Hope this helped. :-)

No burning required ...

Turns out, after I made the 16 dmg files using Disk Utility, I could start Pacifist by dragging "Bundled Software.mpkg" from: Mac OS X Install DIsk 1 (Disk Image made by double clicking the dmg file) / System / Installation / Packages / Bundled Software.mpkg
to the Pacifist window.

Then, when Pacifist asks for a disk to be put in the CD reader (starts with Disk 10), you just double click its corresponding .dmg file, and Pacifist uses the info from that OS X Install Disk n Disk Image after it opens on the Desktop.

The CD Reader opens and closes, but Pacifist finds the CD info on Disk Image.

If you open several at a time, Pacifist will just jump from one to the next, until it reaches one not open, and then it asks for it. I suppose if you open all 16 before it starts, it would work through each one ... sort of like having 16 CD readers going at once.

No need to go into the files to change directory pointers.

Pacifist builds all installation files needed to Install all if iLife ... but then asks which ones to do and where ... have to look around the Menues to see all this. Then iy goes through asking for the various OS X Install Disk n disk images.

Having a little trouble with Garageband ... files don't verify, so I had to Stop ...

I got iMovie HD installed ... not much to it ... and evidently, you eventually have to buy a Pro version.

Still experimenting ...
