I just received the Airport Extreme base station I purchased off of eBay (B/G
version), which was designed to replace my Powermac which I've been using in
Software base station mode for years, in the hopes of better signal. Anyway, I
attempted to just use the new base station as my wifi hub, but the signal was
no better (and I'm also using the DrBott omni antenna). So my next idea was to
relay the Powermacs wifi signal around the furnace/fireplace which blocks all
signal into my bedroom. Unfortunately, after 3 hours of fiddling, I was unable
to get the base station to relay the Powermacs Airport signal.

I believe I had the settings all right. I put the base station into WDS remote
mode, and plugged in the airport cards ID number as the WDS main MAC address.
Everything connected fine, and Airport Utility showed a green light, but no
internet signal ever got to my Powerbook, even though I was right under the
base station. I guess the million dollar question is can you relay a software
base station signal, or is the base station limited to repeating other hardware
base station signals?

I really want/need signal in my room. It's pretty bad that my 1.67DL Powerbook
gets the same horrible reception as my older 400Ti Powerbook, and even worse is
my even older Pismo gets 3x the signal of both of them, ugh! I'm now at the
point of having to physically run ethernet lines under the house, and put the
base station directly in the room. I really don't want to cut holes in the
wall, and run wires under the house, so any ideas you guys have I'm open to!
Thanks for the advice, and sorry for the super long post.
