MDDs only have USB 1 onboard. The theoretical speeds are 12MBits/ second for USB 1 vs 400 for firewire and 480 for USB 2.

88 hours seems a little slow, but moving that quantity over USB 1 is going to take many hours.

If your MDD only has the original USB and no add in cards and the My Book only has a USB 2 interface, it would be well worth it to pick up a USB 2 card for your MDD.
