Thanks for the quick reply Bruce. Sounds like it should do the trick.
Some more info, since you mention IMAP ---
The ISP has been doing things with their Mail Server / system ---
things can be set up to be POP or IMAP. I set things up to use IMAP
a couple of days ago. What a disaster. I had 1500+ e-mails in my
'inbox', I'm also on a 'dial-up' internet connection. The "IMAP"
system spent most of the day 'UPLOADING' those old E-Mails, to bring
the Server 'up-to-date'. Back to POP, so that my system is usable.
Thanks for the info.

Mail refuses to open. Claims the 'Home' directory is too full. No
room to index mail.
I have deleted/ moved files in the 'user' 'account' directory (now
less than 16 entries)
Tried Re-Booting, Safe Boot, still no joy.
HELP Presently using a 'backup' laptop.
Silly quesion, you emptied trash, there really IS enough room on
the Mac?
This POP or IMAP mail? If it's IMAP, just delete the account and re-
add it. If pop, move the mail-containing folders aside, drop
account, re-add account and import old mail.
(Reason 3,456 why I LOVE LOVE LOVE IMAP mail accounts.)
