Exactly what codec are you using?

What are you using to play the videos, and on what speed Mac? Have you tried a different player? eg: VLC vs QuickTime Player. I've seen this type of sync problem occur if the Mac isn't fast enough to keep up with the bit rate... The codecs in VLC seem better than Apple's, but still not great.
