System file modifications keeps causing re-installs
With the use of various mice and all the other similar (finger
moving flats) we keep finding the system will no longer load,
because a required file has been inadvertently or on purpose moved
by accident or maliciously.
Can all the system be put into a folder and locked in 10.4 or 10.5
G4 etc?
All you got to do is unlock it and your back to damage, is there a
way to require a password?
Any System file should ALWAYS require a password to move it or modify
it. The only normal way this happens without requiring a password if
if you've enabled root user, and you're logged-in as "root". It may be
possible for some type of malware to get root access and change the
ownership & permissions so that System files can be modified without a
password or root user login, but this is highly unlikely on a Mac AFAIK.
It sounds to me like you may have a failing HD or bad RAM. These are
the two main causes of modified System files (read this as "data
corruption"), that happen without a request for an admin password.
There should NEVER be modified System files without some password
request.
Rather than doing a full System reinstall, you should try reinstalling
the latest Combo Update first to see if that solves your issues.
I don't think the usage of "various mice" or whatever "finger moving
flats" are has anything to do with modified System files. This is
likely a coincidence.
