You have raised two issues in this posting.

1 - You installed from a DVD drive, yet the installer did NOT see that it was IN a DVD drive? I find that very hard to comprehend. If the installation ran properly, the DVD Player software would have been installed. It is a integral part of the OS. That makes me believe that the player software had to have been removed from the Applications folder, either by intent or by accident. Just run the installer again and let it replace the missing software. If you don't have the disc to do the installation, run - don't walk - to your nearest user group and borrow the disc from a member.

2 - The program you are thinking about is called "Pacifist". I have never used it and cannot advise you of its abilities, sorry.
