Well, it's back ---- more diagnostic measures later.

Using suggested Terminal commands from Bruce & Dan, I combined things.
I entered in Terminal "sudo lsof | grep Python >
openfiles.txt"
Terminal then gave a caution message, accepted my password, and ran
the command. I then went looking for the for the output file, found
in my 'user' account (expected), but the file was an EMPTY file.
Soooo I then went back to terminal and ran the individual steps;
I.E Bruces command by itself, Info scrolled past on the screen (did
NOT examine closely)
I then had a brainstorm ---- Back to square one, boot, open
activity monitor, started 'Mail' --- no Python showing, added
'Firefox', still no Python, been doing misc other stuff, NO PYTHON.
Conclusion --- Something was hung up in the system that was loading
and running something that was unnecessary --- Doing the 'Terminal
commands' cleared whatever flag was causing the problem, and I'll
probably never know the original source of the glitch.
So, unless 'Python (not responding) shows up again, all is
(probably) well.

if the process is exactly "Python" then this command will show
you what that process has open. That can often be telling...
lsof | grep Python
Thanks Dan, the more information I can dig out, the better chance
