Target Disk Mode FireWire has lots of problems
SITUATION - attempting to get computer to work. The DVD rejects Apple
branded install disk and two others, but CMD+S and CMD+V work just fine
and the built in hd test shows it to be good. Note that it will not load
using shift, but start up shows hd in Option ok and will go to Apple and
rotating gear, but does not progress.
PROCEDURE - since nothing on the hd is of value, a wipe and install is
the target using the Target Mode. Started the good G4, 10.5 then the
problem computer started up using the T key. The target graphic shows
and it's hd is now on the desk top of the good computer and the install
disk is in the DVD player of the good computer.
Load 10.5 DVD and select the firewire hd to install on the bad computer.
The installer comes back with: you need to partition the hd, go to Disk
Utility.
DU runs ok and tests ok, so I go to partition and it refuses to let me
partition saying it can not dismount the disk.
Any ideas?
Bruce,
Could he be having a permissions/ownership issue w/ the drive?
