Try using Geekbench. I did the test using my laptop with a 1.6ghz Athlon64 TF-20 vs my Powerbook G4 1.67ghz and the Athlon system smoked it. Most of the benchmarking programs and software Apple uses in their demonstrations are optimized for Altivec and don't use Intel and AMD's extensions very well, if at all.
