As to the ability to go off-line, there are at least two ways I can see:
wall-to-wall and "chat" (located in the lower right-hand corner)
That being said, no one is being forced to use FB and indeed some posts are
pretty immature, but that, I would suggest, is a function of who you
"friend".
Remember, you can pick your friends and you can pick your nose, but you
can't pick your friend's nose!
Also, may I suggest this thread has run its course?
