Hello there! Yesterday I got a PowerMac G4 "Digital Audio", along with its corresponding graphite monitor and two 6400/180s totally free (and they all work, which is excellent!).
However, the monitor starting doing some loud noises sometime after I turned it on, and it smelled like something had burned there (it might be burnt dust, as the car seat where it sat in the way home was a lot dirty when I got the monitor out! - it seems these machines were kept in storage for a very long time...). This weekend I might open it and spray some compressed air into it, and see if the problems go away. But (if I wouldn't ask a question at all, I'd be just bragging about my conquests :P) do you think the problem is dust-related? Or is it something more serious? I don't know much about CRTs, but the image was clear and bright while the monitor was on! Also, what are the upgrades you recommend to do in the G4? It is the 733 MHz model, with 256 MB of RAM, 60 GB hard drive and a CD-RW. It has, I believe, a Geforce2 with 32 MB of VRAM (it has a VGA and ADC connector - at least I think it is ADC, I've never seen one of those, and it does not look like a DVI connector!). RAM is an obvious place to start (it takes PC-133 modules, correct?), however I'd like to add a USB 2.0 card (are they easily recognized by the Mac OS?) and probably a newer hard drive. But all of that won't be done right away, as I still need to figure out how to open the case... :P Regards, Manuel Marques -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
