Could be the bad capacitor problem; could be a bad LCD. If you have an 
identical second iMac you could swap the LCDs to see if the problem travels 
with the LCD. That's what I did last month with an iMac G5 17" (pre-ALS) that 
had several groups of vertical lines. It was the LCD, and after a replacement 
everything's OK. OTOH, I've had iMac G5s with vertical lines where the problem 
was bad capacitors *and* a faulty inverter. I've also seen munged up LVDS 
connectors on the back of the LCD. So pretty much anything is possible.
