The Apple cards with the DEC "Tulip" IC are 100-percent compatible. These cards were not made by Apple, but were rebranded my Apple. The generic cards with a Realtek 8169 chip are compatible OOTB on MacOS X, but require a driver for 9.2. This is the only gigabit E-net card I am aware of which has an 9.2 driver as Apple never went beyond 10/100 in its PCI card offerings, although the later G4 Macs certainly had an on-mobo 10/100/1000 capability. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
