This is an excellent point. I think this is one reason why laptops have finally overtaken desktops in sales. When you add in the cost of electricity over the lifetime of the computer a laptop can be cheaper to operate in some instances. An iPad takes efficient computing to a new level, so it's another option in a more limited sense.
