Well, first, yes you ARE using Address Book, any addresses you save are stored there if you're using Mail. Second, I suspect you're talking about the collected addresses, which can be seen via Mail > Windows > Previous Recipients, which is a collection of addresses you have sent mail to who are not in your address book. These are stored......in Address Book. (Toldja you were using it!) Specifically these are the addresses in the (alas, a binary sqlite) file AddressBook.data.previous in: /Users/<username>/Library/Application\ Support/AddressBook To synch everything between multiple macs, the simplest is via MobileMe's synchronization function. The Dean of the College here uses it to keep his (ginormous) address book synchronized between 4 computers and his iPhone, and it works flawlessly. However, you seem to have switched mid-stream. first you say: "I want to find a way to sync the address's between 5 Macs preferably with a thumb drive or Ethernet." (see above, MobileMe, or <http://tinyurl.com/bemuad>, <http://tinyurl.com/pvlxv4>) but in your follow up you say:"I use Apple Mail app and when I go between mail boxes the address's that are available seem to only be ones previously used on the particular box even though they're all in the same app." This is a horse of a different kettle of fish. Here you're describing not having the same addresses available between mailboxes on a single Mac.
