I've never had any trouble with any brand of hard drive in any of my Macs. If the onboard controller supports large drives just about anything up to 500 GB will work, on older G4s there is a 128 GB limit (can be worked around in several ways, though). 120 GB hard drives with 8MB cache / 7200 rpm are good and relatively cheap.
