The eight year old HDD in my iMac finally died. Never having had an
out-of-warranty HDD die before I decided to take it apart and see it's
construction for myself. This is what brings me to my question.
Are the rare earth (?) magnets that control the actuating arm strong
enough to erase the data on the disk itself if they are simultaneously
applied directly to both sides of the disk?
It's not terribly important as I intend to physically destroy the disk,
I'm just curious about this.
