Hello! My G5 Quad is in a mess. It all started a month ago when suddenly booting my precious became a problem. When booting the DVD drive ejects and a mouse problem occurs. At the login screen my mouse is non functional, but I can login using the keyboard. When I reach the Finder it gets worse. There a few startup programs appear and I can mouse around but I cannot click away those programs or close the windows. I've tried every keyboard and mouse in the house to no avail. But since I am a resourceful guy I ripped the HD and put it in an external enclosure connecting it to my MBP. When appearing on the desktop I immediately get a warning: "I cannot use this disk. You can still copy from it but I cannot write to it. Copy everything and format the drive." Something like that. DiskWarrior says that it finds overlapping files. I believe that Alsoft says that you should write down the name and location of every file and manually delete them. After 36 hours of using DW it has found over 2000 overlapping files and there is still 450 GB to go... I decided to try other routes first. Then I tried Carbon Copy Cloner but all I got was my first kernel panic on the new computer.
Did I give up? No!
I installed a new HD in my G5, put in the DVD for it and held down c when booting. Sure enough the DVD was ejected and in the install process there is a halt since the mouse is non clickable. Well that clears things up a bit, didn't it? Now we "know" that it's not a software problem!?
I have tried to zap the PRAM.
My G5 has had serious problems from the start. It has been to repair shops 3 times because of fan problem (when booting all fans start to roar at highest and loudest speed like a Boeing 747.) What else can I try? I don't think that I will be purchasing a new logic/motherboard for it. Or "mother modem" as a swedish magazine once called it ;-))
Thanks in advance

Per-Anders
