This isn't a factor for single drives, the drive is the limiting factor, not the type of FW connection. I made this mistake when I got my G5 and immediately decided I needed "faster" FW800 external enclosures. When I got my first enclosure, I was totally bummed it was identical in all speed tests to the previous FW400 enclosure. Turns out both are quicker than the drive latency, so unless you're hooking up to some sort of multi-drive RAID, it won't matter.
