Just got a free G5/1.6 with 2 DVI ports of different sizes (pardon my
ignorance, but I didn't even know what DVI was until I got this
machine). I ordered a DVI to VGA adapter (before realizing my current
monitors have DVI too - I just didn't have cords) and because it only
came with the stock 256MB of RAM, I've ordered 2GB RAM for it too. I
was going to use it as a media server for two G4s (and possibly two
G3s as well), but have just (re)discovered XBMC and understand it has
support for Mac PPC now.

Now, I'm thinking of hooking up the G5/1.6 to my entertainment system
(old equipment) and I'm wondering if it's possible/worth it to use the
G5 in this way with XBMC. In hopes that someone has done something
similar (or can figure out the worthiness by my description) here are
my components: Sanyo MTS Stereo TV, RCA RT2770 Home Theater Receiver w/
USB, Samsung DVD Player w/USB, Motorola Digital Cable Box, and a 5
(wired) speaker system for the Dolby 2.0(?) Surround Sound. Oh, and I
get Netflix on my Wii - wired network w/cable modem and router for
the two G4s. Optionally there's also a Samsung DVD recorder that I'm
not using at the moment.

Is it possible/worth it to use an old G5 and XBMC like this? Or am I
just being wacky?
