Some of ya'll are managers of computer systems both large and small, and have lots of valuable experience. I'm thinking of installing Leopard and providing a Time Machine backup hard drive. Would you recommend that I give them one admin account on the Quicksilver, known only by the mom, and one guest account for each family member to use? And of course, I will train them all the best I can.

Took the words right out of my mouth. That's the way I'd go. Also consider appropriate Parental Control setups for the kid's accounts.
