If you're using optical mice on a printed 'woodgrain' laminate desktop, try
using a piece of paper as a 'mouse pad'. For some reason printed woodgrain
(especially lighter colors) drives optical mice crazy. I've seen this a number
of times with both macs and pcs.

Real wood does not do this.
