That's odd. Do you get the command prompt? That message is usually what you get when you exit form a terminal session and don't close the window. Check in Terminal Preferences > General in the Startup section, see if the 'Shells open with' selection is set to default login shell or is set to some other command. Also look in the Settings section of the prefs, there's a place to run a command on startup there as well.
