you need to buy a PRAM battery before trying this. it may be the issue with
booting. if you wont buy the battery , abandon the project. they only last 3
years, not 11.

no mac or that era will run reliably with a dead battery and startup issues
are a common
symptom.

any PATA drive will work, but jumper settings and master/slave positions
must be strictly adhered to.

dont spend more than $30 on this $10 machine. better off with a sawtooth G4,
which can run 10.5 with leopardassist. thats a $30 machine.

USB drives will not boot on this machine.  dont quote me but i believe this
is the only firewire mac machine you cannot boot from firewire.


SCSI works nicely with the correct card and drive.
