which scheme were you using, 568 A or B? If you wired up the network plug using 568A and the cables are B (most common I have seen. Please don't ask why. I don't know and don't care), it will not work. You need to use the same scheme cables as the wall plugs. There are a number of sites on the web which can show you the proper color sequence for each scheme. One is here:
