Not done that yet but my Macbook connects with other ethernet networks at full 1000mbps yet when using the same cable and router port as the G5 bottom ethernet port, the speed changes. It seems as though whatever cable is plugged into the G5 bottom port, I get expected transfer speed from the internet but anything else plugged in the speed plummets. I haven't yet tried transferring data between machines - will do later.
