If using USB 3.0, say, and it is an add-in 3.0 card, then you're stuck, sort-of, even if it is a Reneses/NEC-based card. You can back-up using CCC at 3.0 speed, but booting must be done using the on-motherboard 2.0/1.1, not the add-in 3.0.
