Thanks, Bruce. But I don't believe Verizon offers DSL in my area of upstate New York. When I run my phone number past the verizon website it always tells me no can do. The only non-dialup alternative I know of is either Time Warner RoadRunner or Earthlink. (I believe Earthlink uses Time Warner's cables.) Both of them offer a "cheap" 768 x 128 Kbps plan but it's $30/mo. My friend cannot afford the extra $240 a year.
