I confirm TFF let the user using both FF (3) and TFF at leisure. I didn't feel the need to go back using FF, though, because I had no problem whatsoever in running TFF (currently 4.0b13pre). I'd say that TFF (even it's still a beta release) is somehow faster and smoother than FF 3.6.15 I used before.
