Well to answer the last question first...no, you can't...at least until you 
cool it down enough to freeze the bearings of the HDD. People have overclocked 
systems to insane levels...by cooling the cpu in liquid nitrogen...

The MDD fans are system controlled, but I don't know if the system gets any 
feedback from the fans or not, disconnecting them may make the system think 
they're off and shut itself down.

It may make no difference at all :-/

So long as the closet is ventilated, and the computer isn't buried in the 
winter overcoats section of the closet, this should pose no more problems than 
running it in the open; the inside of the computer is a far more confined space 
that the system normally runs in.

Install Temperature monitor and run it before (to establish a baseline) and 
after the move. Make sure you NEED to mod the Mac before you do it.
