In Disk Utility highlight the HD itself, not the partition. Select the
tab "Partition" and then select the "Volume Scheme" for how many
partitions you require (normally one). Then on the "Options..." button
below select "Apple Partition Map" and give the partition(s) a name(s)
and under "Format" select "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". You can
fiddle with the sizes if you have more than one partition. When you're
done, press the "Apply" button below and wait for it to finish.
