IIRC, MacOS 9 only does 4:3 resolutions, but I have only had 4:3 monitors connected to my G3 B&W. I have had my beige-which-is-actually- platinum G3 connected to a LCD TV before, but still only 4:3.
I remember from trying to flash a PC-ROMed GeForce 6200 that I frequently spotted 1920 x 1080 as the top resolution, but only on machines like the B&W G3 and up (i.e. ATI Rage 128, 128 Pro and nVidia GeForce 2, 3 & 4). And even the B&W G3 only offered 1280 x 960 and 1344 x 1008 as widescreen resolutions (both of which didn't fit my LCD, I happen to have the 'impossible' 1366 x 768). Just my two cents!
