This is a little confusing, shouldn;d you be booting your iBook in target mode, loading the DVD into your G4 and then selecting the iBook's disk as the location where you want to install the Tiger OS.

So I connected a G4 Mac (Snakebite) in target mode to use its DVDdrive.
But the iBook doesn’t see the DVD or the boot drive in the G4, it sees
only the second HD in there, the original one with OS 9 installed.
