I'll also add my voice to the chorus about "new bad sectors ==
failing drive"; in my experience, new bad sectors invariably mean
'time to get a new drive'. The moment SMART starts telling you
things are going wrong, you should take action.

Under normal circumstances I would already have the new drive on order,
unfortunately that just is not an option at the moment. I do have it
backed up and the only file that was damaged is an easily replaceable
app. I'll take a look at SMARTReporter's logs tomorrow to see what they
say, though it never indicated a serious problem - but being that I run
as non-admin it won't alert for I/O errors.

I've also had the opportunity to compare TechTool Pro 5 to Drive Genius
2, and while Micromat dropped the fairly usable interface in favor of gee-whiz dashboard guages I still found it better suited to my needs and easier to use than DG.

I also gave SuperDuper! another looksee, it's still a fine app but it's still CCC that works best for my needs.
